More from the Four Year Journal

I'm slowly and careful posting pages from the Four Year Journal. It's a departure from my last few posts, it shows pages that are from museum drawing expeditions and some drawings for some future projects.

More of the Four Year Journal

I imagine another four years will pass before I finish putting the pages of the Four Year Journal onto my blogs and various online presences.

The Four Year Journal, 2008-2012

So I have finished virtually every page of this journal that I've been working in since spring 2008. I photographed the pages today, but I did so inside and I don't like all of the photos so I'll have to post the pictures slowly and carefully and will probably re-photograph the pages again and again.

Now, this is how I work. I usually have one main journal that I work in. I usually choose it according to an overwhelming need or desire that I have  at the time. When I chose this one, I was looking at lots of paintings by Tintoretto. A lot of his paintings have a horizontal composition and feature lots of figures doing lots of things, like washing people's feet and finding babies in bulrushes.  I thought it would be fun to do similar compositions using figures observed in the subway, because I spend about two to three  hours going somewhere, everyday. The pages measure eleven inches by 14 inches so its a real commitment to carry it around.  In additon to the main journal, I have numerous other journals that I work in, based on distractions. So it takes me years to really finish with a journal. During the time I worked on the Four Year Journal, I worked also on The Book of Torsoes, The Journal of Mediterranean Travel ( Italy and Lebanon), The Face Book, Volumes One and Two and  The Book of Obscured Meditations.
