Vanitas, Part Seven

In these two drawings, a couple of days have passed. The flowers have changed, but the lobster, being plastic, remains the same.

Vanitas, Part Five

Vanitas, Part Four

As you can see, Vanitas is quite a long book. I may never really finish it.

A Woman and Her Puppets Watch the Deadly Nightshade grow.

This is the second installment of my book, Vanitas.  Blogspot makes me post things in way I might not ordinarily post them. Also, I'm only allowed a certain number of images per post. If I exceed that number, then Blogspot re-orders everything for me. Since Vanitas is a book, its sequence is important to me and not negotiable.

Skeleton with Medicinal Plants

the front cover of Vanitas

Vanitas is a book of drawings executed in ink, watercolor, gouache and pastel. The book itself was made in India and is composed of handmade paper. As an object, it seduced me from the moment I laid eyes upon it.  Most of the objects and plants depicted in the book are objects and plants that I have lived with. There are some people and animals depicted in the in the book, but they're mostly life drawings or from photographs of strangers.

The book has taken me few years. All of the plants herein are long dead. I still have most of the objects. The covers are adorned with a variety of knife blades.
